Details
Specialized has known for years that smoother is indeed faster, but until the S-Works Ruby with SRAM eTap came along, we had no idea just how right they were. The frame is constructed from their top-end FACT 11r carbon fiber and is among the lightest that they've ever made. Its stiffness levels are also off the charts, and compared to the SL4 iteration of yesteryear, you'll experience a whole new, faster, and more efficient geometry. The S-Works Ruby Disc fork is also built from their FACT 11r carbon, offering supreme stiffness, strength, and reactivity, while a thru-axle design bolsters all of the above. The suspension up front is called Future Shock, and it's a piston in the head tube with 20mm of travel. Specialized developed this technology in partnership with McLaren Applied Technologies, and the results are a host of drastic performance improvements. They found that focusing on vertical compliance, instead of fork splay, improved smoothness, speed, and comfort in one fell swoop. The carbon Roval CLX 32 wheels spin up quickly and hold your line in the corners, while the Specialized tires inspire confidence everywhere. Lastly, it has been outfitted with SRAM's revolutionary RED eTap 11-speed drivetrain that provides a glimpse into the future of shifting; the shifters communicate wirelessly with the front and rear derailleurs for a ground-breaking level of performance, while offering new, intuitive shift capabilities. The SRAM RED hydraulic disc brakes provide peerless speed modulation. A whole host of women's-specific comfort features and a plush CG-R FACT carbon seatpost round out the build on this sleek, cutting-edge machine.
Electronic drivetrain systems deliver excellent shifting, easy set up, and solid battery life. Here are some benefits of electronic shifting that you don't want to miss.
Shifting Performance
Electronic shifting systems use powerful servo motors to rapidly shift the chain. Because microprocessors and sensors constantly monitor every aspect of the system, they shift with surgical precision and without chain rub.
Customization
Many major systems have customizable shifting. Some have the ability to add remote shifters for common riding positions, and some even allow you to change the functions of the shifting buttons.
Dependability
Electronic groupsets are responsive and consistent. There are no cables to stretch and wear out, so you get a flawless shift every time. The added bonus is you'll never have to replace a derailleur cable ever again.
